OnePlus 11R

OnePlus 11R 5G Review

OnePlus 11R 5G Introduction:

OnePlus 11R 5G

The OnePlus 11R 5G is the brand's new β€˜value flagship' and it makes all sense that this should get more spotlight than even the flagship variant, which is its sibling, in form of the OnePlus 11 itself. You can think of it as exactly what OnePlus used to be about: the 11R is a seemingly no-compromise affordable phone, and that has been missing for some time in these parts.Β

The OnePlus 11R 5G features a flagship-class processor, the same main camera as its sister-model (OnePlus Solo Camera flagships), and ultra-fast charging starting at just Rs. As a result, the 11R 5G is one of the best options you can get for this category in India at present. So does the North Edition even live up to its promises on paper?

OnePlus 11R 5G

The OnePlus 11R 5G’s base variant comes with 8GB of β€œLPDDR5” RAM and 256GB of internal storage. This flagsh works for Rs. 42,999 in India. But there’s another variant as well; 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage can be purchased for Rs. 44,999 here, the top-end model I’m reviewing and would recommend. This base variant should be enough for most users, but if you need an extra 56, then the second variant is a good buy. Overall, products this year seems to be thsing a 12GB RAM option. A very noticeable trend developing, companies are jumping straight. OnePlus sent me a review unit of the top-end model in Sonic Black, and it’s also available in Galactic Silver.

OnePlus 11R 5G Design:

The existence of this device itself confused me as well – the OnePlus 11R really does one helluva impression that it is a proper high-end flagship, at least unless you know what to look for. Those are the hallmarks of an 11R 5G - and a few things that need to remain in differentiation when you snap one up alongside its flagship cousin: Since there's no Hasselblad "swipe" button by the rear cameras, nor any antenna lines around top edge or new place for centralized selfies. Besides that the dimensions, weight and even on design of curved-edge display are all similar between both phone! While this puts a slight dent in the 11 5G's more premium/rarefied air, it's a massive win for the unifying look of the strange design on one phone - when you consider that Pokemon Cave from Unpicking The Mystery Of Gate Monkey Bridge Land never had anything like an iPhone Ringwood Aestcourte notchborg.

The OnePlus 11R is equipped with the signature of all OnePluses β€” an β€˜Alert slider’, and a top-spec feature on a OnePlus phone for the first-time-infrared (IR) emitter. The IR Remote app will power up the electronics and appliances in your home once you configure them during setup. The black variant of the 11R 5G is equipped with a matte glass back, which resists fingerprints well and gives it an encouragingly dry feel to grip;

OnePlus 11R 5G Display:

The OnePlus 11R 5G on the other hand features a slightly smaller curve display measuring at 6.74-inches with slight curvature around the left and right edges, but slimmer top bezels than usual alongside reduced bottom chin compared to previous years. The in-display fingerprint sensor is also much further down than other phones with the feature, so its a tad more difficult to adjust too. It is a AMOLED display with 1.5K resolution (2772 x 1240 pixels) and a peak refresh rate of up to120Hz. Both devices support HDR video playback (although not Dolby Vision). Back side uses Corning Gorilla Glass 5 material whereas Dragontrail glass layer is being used for scratch protection of the screen.

OnePlus 11R 5G In the Box:

It includes a stickers, the SIM ejector tool, case and USB cable as well along with other OnePlus 11R 5G accessories in retail box such as; The usual user manuals., A key to open your new sim card slot without external help from Apple staff., Power brick of 100 Watt which means faster charging speeds especially when it comes down taking less energy from batteries while using these devices!

OnePlus 11R 5G Camera:

The OnePlus 11R has the exact same primary camera as we see in the second device which is Sony IMX890 sensor, a main lens with an aperture of f/1.8 and OIS support (in short: optical image stabilization). The other rear cameras are more typical for a OnePlus 10R 5G experience, but with the exception of what you get in the camera on the back of an entry-level device I like less-good. It has got 8-megapixel ultra-wide and a 2 megapixels macro camera. On the front, you are getting a 16-megapixel camera and OnePlus has not mentioned what sensors it uses here.

OnePlus 11R 5G camera

The camera app is essentially the same as what you'd get on 11 5G, except for some changes here and there such as the red shutter button taking a hike or Xpan mode going into hiding (no Hasselblad Pro Mode this time around since no Hasselblad Colour has been thrown in with it). Science (HCS). I do not believe this is a huge deal, because OnePlus says HCS only applies when shooting RAW in Pro mode.

I even turned AI scene enhancement off on both to see a difference, and I definitely think the typical still shots you take with an 11R have a somewhat cooler colour tone than if taken at exactly the same moment (in slightly less light) as when using my OnePlus. With the primary sensor being the same on both, details in pictures were broadly similar too but there was one occasion or two when it came to image quality and stitching shots together with 11R 5G wasn't quite up to matching those of an iPhone Experience flagship. Close-ups shot using that snapper brought very good detail into colours. The macro camera - no surprises here, did not do well and the results were really bad.

The ultra-wide camera of the 11R produced more muted colors and less details than the corresponding sensor on even the OnePlus 9 Pro -- photos looked a little bit washed out, even in broad daylight. The camera app captures long exposure shots in low light automatically, though you still get photos that works decently fine.

The best low-light photos come out of the 11R 5G main camera, which has excellent exposure, colors and details. Close-ups render well, too - and consistent autofocus even in low light Digital zoom is only up to 10X with the 11R 5G, which has poor quality even in daylight.

Interestingly, in many cases it also looks like the 11R5 G has exactly [the] same selfie camera as that of the 11G based on their almost identical result. It does the job, but selfies aren't that sharp and holds back detail to a degree, while colours (and skin tones) can sometimes not be quite depicted as they should. Though, it does pull out some respectably good low-light shots courtesy of Night mode.

The OnePlus 11R is capable of recording video up to the resolution 4K (60 FPS), however, in this case it applies for only main camera. While the selfie camera and ultra-wide are limited to 1080p. Daytime and low-light 4K video both look good, with solid stabilization that keeps jitter while walking at a minimum. Video shot on the ultra-wide camera is significantly less impressive, especially in low light but its electronic stabilisation work effectively across all three cameras.

The camera appin still offers a variety of shooting modes similar to one untethered camera such as Film, which allows you to shoot in wider aspect ratio or LOG video recording.

OnePlus 11R 5G performance:

I was very happy with the general performance of the OnePlus 11R 5G during my time testing it out. Fingerprint reader works fast and face recognition is pretty accurate as well. The UI itself is very smooth, the animations are superb and we never experienced any kind of delay no matter what feature or function you try to perform on this phone. The software seems to be significantly feature full and luckily enough does not bombard you with any random notifications.

The display is reported to be an adaptive one as it is in the range of 40Hz ~120Hz (supports 45/60 /90 Hz according different content) The interface is will always run at 120Hz and only drop to 60 if there has been no touch input for a few seconds. While certain applications run all the time at a lower refresh rate like 60Hz for camera application and 90 Hz in gallery app. This isn't one of those LTPO panels on phones that continuously changes its refresh rate depending on your input and the content you are viewing, mind you-the 11R 5G will still affect battery life since scrolling through apps is smooth. For gaming and multimedia performance there is virtually nothing to complain about. The SoC should have no problems running even demanding games.

Asphalt 9: Legends also looked great and played very well. In any game, the gaming tools menu in OxygenOS can be called through a simple swipe. It allows you in monitoring the temperature of your phone and leads to receive a readout each game also associated with an instantaneous control over extra features as anti-aliasing.

Even though the warmth is not felt too much while have gaming. I liked the stereo speakers that could get pretty loud and sounded decent. OnePlus 11R 5G achieved the score of 775,602 points in AnTuTu Benchmark and Single-Core & Multi-core scores on Geekbench-6 were noted as:908 &3,430.

OnePlus 11R 5G Battery:

It has a battery of 5000mAh and supports quick charge up to 100W SUPEROOCC, both the same as on the OnePlus 11 - which is still more expensive. It took the phone 9 minutes to reach at 50% and from zero to a hundred within about 26 mins in our testing.

OnePlus 11R 5G

We didn't do our full battery testing, but the OnePlus 11R does have good battery life that should easily last most users through a day if use.

OnePlus 11R 5G Speaker:

OnePlus 11R rocks a pair of stereo speakers, one at the bottom and another within earpiece. Side on, you can also spot an additional grille for the earpiece speaker so sound comes out evenly from both sides of the phone.

The audio quality is not great though; there's little in the way of low-end, so music isn't that exciting, but vocals sound nice and present with a balanced natural timbre too - overall it was perfectly acceptable for playing back YouTube videos or listening to podcasts. OPPO is also just a little bit better at making sure two speakers sound, well like there are two different audio projectors doing their thing -- you never get the impression that one speaker dominates the conversation either in loudness or frequency response.

While the phone doesn't offer a headphone jack, we managed to use passive USB adapter for this and it sounds good with more of versatility through its own DAC and amp.

OnePlus 11R 5G software:

It runs the same software as 11R: OxygenOS 13 based on Android 13. You get the expected customisation options, shortcuts and gestures that you've come to know from Oppo's ColorOS; a few relics of OxygenOS past like Zen Mode help tie it back. There isn't much bloatware on this thing besides the usual OnePlus and Google apps. When you already have Chrome then the Internet browser app are a little bit overkill (and also it's unable to be uninstalled).

For the 11R 5G, OnePlus has committed to providing three years of Android updates and four years worth of security patches.

OnePlus 11R 5G Conclusion:

At INR 39,999 for the 8/128GB model and INR 44,999 for the 16/256GB model, the OnePlus 11R is a good INR 17,000 less than the equivalently specced OnePlus 11. As a cheaper alternative to the flagship, we found the OnePlus 11R to be very capable, much more than the previous offerings in the R-series.Β

Looking at all the specs, the major concessions are in the camera department. While all three cameras on the back of the OnePlus 11 are capable, the OnePlus 11R gets away with being called a triple-camera phone on a mere technicality. The ultra-wide camera would be more at home on an entry-level Nord whereas the macro camera would be more at home in a bin. Thankfully, the main camera performs largely the same on both phones, much to the chagrin of the OnePlus 11.

Apart from the camera, there isn't much that differentiates the 2 phones. Yes the display is higher res, so too the processor a bit quicker but honestly we could not see any real difference between these and even when using them together.

The OnePlus 11R was actually one of the nicer phones to use, specifically because it doesn't tone down its refresh rate as aggressively compared with the 11. But we do like the addition of a IR blaster (more phones should have this).

And honestly, it's all in the lenses so that added cost doesn't feel worth it to most people right out of the bat. We would stick with the cheaper model - unless, of course you like those ultra-wide samples and don't care about RAW photography.
