Expert point of view

The Vivo V40 Pro arrives just months after its predecessor, the V30 Pro, with many upgrades to warrant the purchase. It rectifies two major weaknesses of the earlier version by incorporating stereo speakers and a better IP rating. Also, the V40 Pro sports a bigger battery, ZEISS-powered cameras, and the powerhouse Dimensity 9200+ chipset. Despite the upgrades, the entry price now exceeds Rs 49,999.

Design and Display

Vivo V40 Pro mobile design

The Vivo V40 Pro is arguably the more premium-looking, sleekly designed phone that feels luxuriously fragile in hand. The super-curved AMOLED display has ultra-slim bezels, making for an immersive view. The sophisticated matte finish on the back panel gives the phone a modern edge that is perfectly complemented by an unexpected camera module. Offered in elegant colors, the V40 combines style and innovation. It is precisely lightweight for using the device comfortably all day long.

Vivo V40 Pro mobile display

Vivo V40 Pro has an impressive AMOLED display at 6.78 inches with a 120Hz refresh rate, which gives amazingly smooth visuals and wonderfully vibrant colors. It is also HDR10+ certified for a richer viewing experience with deep contrasts and bright highlights. It has a resolution of 2800 x 1260 pixels to produce sharp and clear images. The edges are curved, the bezels are slim, and this creates a sense of immersion and adds to that feeling of being premium. The display in the Vivo V40 Pro comes into its own when it comes to gaming, streaming, and other everyday tasks.

Camera

Vivo V40 Pro mobile camera front and back

The rear camera setup of the Vivo V40 Pro is impressive, boasting three 50MP sensors: a Sony IMX921 main sensor with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), a Samsung ISOCELL JN1 ultra-wide lens, and a Sony IMX816 telephoto lens - again, with OIS. This arrangement provides excellent daylight shots with vibrant colors and sharp details. The telephoto lens doubles as a portrait shooter, enhanced by Zeiss optics and different bokeh styles for standout portraits. The "Aura Light" ring flash helps illuminate portraits in low light, too. Overall, V40 Pro offers a versatile, high-class camera experience for its segment.

The Vivo V40 Pro features a 50 MP camera for impressive selfies with defined details and natural skin tones. The 92-degree field of view is good for wide-angle selfies, being complemented by autofocus for sharpness. If the color palette may be slightly subdued next to that of the rear cameras, the color representation is still realistic. The camera can also shoot 4K video at 60 fps, although stabilization could be better. Overall, it offers great appeal to selfie fanatics for its pricing.

The Power of AI

The Vivo V40 Pro 5G relies heavily on AI to improve the photography experience as well, and its smart algorithms let it detect settings based on what's in front of you so that your shots are automatically optimized. Traits of AI-powered functionalities

  • AI Scene Detection: Automatically recognizes different scenarios, shooting portraits, landscapes, food, and night scenes. It selects the right settings to enable a good output.
  • AI Super Night Mode: Called night mode, this feature takes advantage of the multiple exposures to shoot five photos a split-second apart and then uses AI methods for noise reduction while boosting brightness.
  • AI Portrait Lighting: This means the camera can introduce all kinds of lighting techniques into your portraits – natural light, studio light, and even stage light – to help you create different moods and styles.

Beyond Photography

While having a triple rear camera system on the Vivo V40 Pro 5G is not just for taking still photos. This includes, but is not limited to: Advanced methods for video recording

  • 4K Video Recording: 4K Video recording lets you capture high-resolution videos offering amazing visuals.
  • Video Stabilization: With its OIS technology, it stabilizes your on-the-go video and keeps camera shake to a minimum for smooth professional videos.
  • Time-Lapse Photography: Gorgeous time-lapse videos that capture the flow of movement in an amazing form.

4K Video Recording

Apart from still images, the Vivo V40 Pro 5G front-facing camera offers a video recording quality of 4 K. That makes selfies and video calls pop more as well. The stabilization technology of the camera is working to reduce shake, and apparently, its results make footage smoother.

Super Ring light

Vivo V40 Pro mobile super ring light

The Vivo V40 Pro is an Aura Ring Light, which gives the best experience for portrait photography. This smart ring light is kept below the rear camera module and is about 19 times larger and 50 times softer than a standard flash, thus ensuring more natural and flattering skin tones in low-light conditions. The ring light, however, adapts itself to ambient lights, thus giving out balanced illumination for high lighting effects without any shadows that cut through the face. This is also effective for nighttime portraits and indoor selfies, providing a studio-like lighting experience right from your smartphone.

Performance and Software

Vivo V40 Pro mobile

The Vivo V40 Pro makes for smoothness and power, being provided by the MediaTek Dimensity 9200+ chipset mated with RAM of up to 12 GB. Apps open quickly, multitasking is seamless, while graphics-intensive games run with nary a hint of lag. The same goes for temperature: the phone keeps cool under the most taxing of loads, providing a fast user experience all the time. Overall, a good phone for gaming and day-to-day activities.

Vivo V40 Pro is powered by Android 14 with Vivo's Funtouch OS 14 that offers a heavily modified user interface, with features such as customizable lock screen styles, gestures, and home Jovi. While the UI is much fluid and reflects good customization, onboard pre-installed apps accumulate to around 50, which may appear to many as bloatware. Major OS updates are promised for three years, and four yearly updates of security patches that align with normal industry standards for mid-range phones. Advanced AI features are also in the pipeline for the device, offering only basic AI tools like AI Eraser and AI Photo Enhancer, which have received mixed reviews regarding effectiveness. The overall software experience seems very smooth and responsive, but bloatware and AI limitations may act as drawbacks for some users.

Battery and Charging

The Vivo V40 Pro 5G has been given a sizable bump up to an enormous 5500mAh battery. This bountiful capacity provides the device with the response to meet today's demands, even when it involves intense gaming or streaming, and multitasking.

Vivo V40 Pro Battery

Vivo V40 Pro comes with a 5,500mAh battery, which provides exceptional endurance. Real-life usage sees this comfortably last for one and a half days, even with heavy tasks such as gaming and video streaming. Benchmark tests like PCMark, however, recorded a battery life of 14 hours and 36 minutes, placing it second only to the Realme GT 6. Charging is a quick affair since the 80W FlashCharge adapter supplied with the phone takes the battery from 0 to 100 in around 44 minutes. So the V40 Pro is handy as a power bank for any heavy user.

The Vivo V40 Pro has a good battery life performance as it has a 5,500 mAh battery and lasts more than a day in heavy conditions. With its 80W fast charging capability, the device charges the battery up to 73% within 30 minutes and 100% in approximately 44 minutes, according to tests from GSMArena. Although this is a very quick charging speed, some rivals such as Realme GT 6 and OnePlus 12R boast faster charging times. However, the charging performance of the V40 Pro is good enough and reliable for most users.

Extended Storage

Vivo V40 Pro Extended Storage

The Vivo V40 Pro offers ample internal storage options, ranging from 256GB to 512GB, but it lacks microSD card support. This could be a limiting factor for those who want to have a flexible option for storage. UFS 3.1 storage technology allows the device to write at high speeds, making it good enough for accomplishing most common tasks, although it does not match the higher UFS 4.0 standard of a few other competitors. Without expandable storage, users will need to depend on the internal storage as per the available space, making getting the right internal storage version important. Admittedly, the Vivo V40 Pro has some pretty generous internal storage, and it can perform well regarding features, but lost to users may not like it for the lack of expandable storage.

Reasons to buy

  • Premium Design with IP68/IP69 Rating
  • Powerful Performance with Dimensity 9200+
  • Impressive ZEISS-Enhanced Camera System
  • Vibrant 6.78-inch AMOLED Display
  • Long-Lasting 5500mAh Battery with 80W Fast Charging

Conclusion

The Vivo V40 Pro 5G makes for an attractive device priced to stand out on every smartphone user's home screen. A MediaTek Dimensity 9200+ chipset helps handle tasks easily. The phone has a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with vibrant colours.

But one of the noticeable highlights about the V40 Pro 5G is its camera arrangement. A 50MP rear camera ensures beautiful pictures in most lighting conditions, along with a triple lens setup. ZEISS-tuned lenses and AI-powered photography capture stunning details, providing better image quality, as well as some creative shooting modes. The selfie game is quite strong on it, so the potential social media pros out there will love this.

All in all, the Vivo V40 Pro 5G is definitely recommended for anyone who wants a mid-tier smartphone with great features and performance, good cameras, as well as excellent design. It's not perfect, of course, it may never be the best at any one thing, but as an overall package, it provides great bang for your buck. The Vivo V40 Pro 5G won't disappoint if you seek to buy a dependable and feature-studded device.
