Samsung Galaxy S24 5G Introduction:
One of my favorite kinds of phones is the powerful inside, small-outside handset. But you barely see phones like these anymore. That's where we find the Samsung Galaxy S24, continuing the tradition alongside devices like your iPhone 15 and Google Pixel 8. My first encounter with a compact smartphone ever was when I bought the Sony Xperia Z compact, and boy that thing was beautiful. This handset features the same chipset and rear camera implementation as the Samsung S24+, but in a more compact form factor that can be operated with one hand. Is this really the greatest small phone you can hope for in 2024? Let's find out.
Samsung Galaxy S24 5G Design:
It will be like making your Samsung Galaxy 23 look to wilded by other octogenarians as if you are being cool with the new Samsung Phone S24. Both are nearly identical in terms of design. They are both visually and haptically similar, offering one another an aluminum glass sandwich. The rear glass panel also uses Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The phone also feels well built. It tips the scales at 167g and its flat sides help you get a grip. Galaxy S24 is a good one handed device too, to begin with due to the overall compact form factor. This time around, the aluminum frame is subtly rounded so it no longer digs into your hand at the ends and corners. The rear panel is home to three individual rings for the triple cameras, as well as a smaller flash module in an adjacent circle that's located next to these cameras.

Samsung Galaxy S24 5G Processor & Performance:
This year, we may have something interesting brewing within. Samsung courageously selected this to be the first device with its own silicon, featuring Exynos 2400 SoC coupled with Xclipse 940 GPU. No way on this earth do we think it is important to stick with Qualcomm silicon for the following few years. But that is best addressed in the performance section of this review. This setup goes up to 8GB LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB UFS4.0 storage for the chipset.
Speaking of phone performance, the Galaxy S24 should handle anything you throw at it. Alright, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 would have been a bit better on performance but the Exynos 2400 isn't exactly slouching. Those results have some interesting implications, as we saw while running AnTuTu, Geekbench 6 (CPU suite), and both the 3D Mark and GFXBench benchmarks on the smartphone.
On the gaming front, we played BGMI and Asphalt 9: Legends at max settings without breaking a sweat for even up to half an hour. While playing the game for longer, we noticed a minor drop in the on-screen frame rate as it limited the performance of phone to keep temperature under control according. The phone was only slightly warm during brief gaming sessions. Obvious: with the great display that has 120Hz refresh rate and 240 Hz touch sampling of course playing on an S24 is fun.
When it comes to sound, the hybrid stereo speakers on Galaxy S24 are nice as well. Clarity and separation with bass. The handset even offers high call quality.
The Samsung Galaxy S24 has LTPO AMOLED 2X with 6.2 inch display. Adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz with peak brightness of 2600 nits.
The screen has Vivid and Natural colour modes, but there is also an Adaptive display that customizes the colours being shown according to ambient light conditions. Viewing angles, contrast and colour are supreme in the display department Then there's that screen: viewing angles are excellent here too; as well they can be on an AMOLED of course... but it really is a great panel for such a small phone. The videos and games on the Galaxy S24 will have you coming back for more.
In general, the Galaxy S24 will deliver great flagship performance Whatsover in all right deteriorating or from a fury. On the software front, the Galaxy S24 boots OneUI 6.1 based on Android 14 out-of-the-box. Samsung is pulling a Google and promises seven years of Android OS updates just like that These include a bunch of useful AI features, which makes sense as AI is the new buzzword in town right now.

The interpreter mode where you can have live text or voice translation of conversations and the real-time phone translator work only in with Samsung Phone app. We tested this function, and it worked great. The Live Translate feature will only work in a few languages right now. The generative AI wallpapers are also fun, but they can be limited in the number you can create with the inputs provided.
Samsung Galaxy S24 5G Camera:
Samsung has had amazing camera hardware in the past few years on its flagship Galaxy S series phones, and they produce, stills stunning photos ans videos but with a little extra saturation toggle dialed up. This is also true for the Galaxy S24, and even less so than it was before. The triple rear cameras of the Galaxy S24 are visible by taking a glimpse at work and they appear to be just like last year. These consist of a 50-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL GN3 main sensor, along with a 10 MP telephoto offering up to 3x optical zoom and finally. It houses a 12-megapixel camera on the front. The only thing that lets this down is the auto-focus in ultra-wide camera, because other pro-competition were mostly already offering one.

In daylight, these colors will always be saturated but the images coming out of that ultrawide camera are actually pretty great. Skies in particular appear bluer than normal. Other than that everything is pretty much the same as how we would expect in normal camera. Ultra-wide photos are noisy and lacks details around the corners in low light Photos even with auto night mode in ultra-wide are still noisy.
To get into the telephoto camera, however. Portrait photos look very good with the telephoto camera, and edge detection is excellent. In good light, you can click 3x zoom images with nice details and decent dynamic range. That said, the 3x telephoto doesn't hold up so well in low-light and even night mode can only do so much for its case. In images, noise and distortion are certainly going to be visible.
The front shooter is excellent and delivers crisp selfies in both day light as well as low-light. You can also record in 4K @60fps (H264). The portrait selfies and night mode selfies are somewhat OK too, with good details and some noise levels that make it not over-sharpened.
In terms of video, the Galaxy S24 offers fantastic video performance. Colour, dynamic range and clarity are very good as is the stabilisation. Best of all, the phone can record with each one of its cameras in 4K and make it sound - everything is color matched.
Conclusion:
Samsung Galaxy S24 will take on the iPhone 14 with a flagship compact phone attitude frankly, there are rumours to think otherwise. Apple iPhone 15 (no telephoto camera: A bit less of a complete package than the Galaxy S24. Regardless, the performance and battery life is likely to be much enhanced on the iPhone 15. The Pixel 8 has below par performance, but offers good cameras, a larger battery and Google software/ AI features for an even more compact device at slightly less of a price.
About its price in India. In visuals, Galaxy S24 is available starting in India for Rs. 74,999 For 8GB RAM + 128GB Storage.
All of this without the AI trickery, but it is still much affordable and cheaper than a Galaxy S24: OnePlus 12 & Xiaomi 14. It will provide better performance, larger screens and batteries with incoming camera hardware.
So finally, best compact smartphone of 2024, Galaxy S24 We'd say NO!
